Buy, Rent, or Build: Which Indoor Pickleball Court Path Is Right for You?
There are three ways to get time on an indoor pickleball court of your own: buy a home that already has one, rent a stay-and-play getaway, or build one yourself. Each fits a different goal, timeline, and budget. Here is how to think about it.
Buy
Buying a home with an existing indoor court is the fastest route to playing every day — no construction, no waiting. Because true indoor court homes are rare and highly sought after, the trade-off is availability: you are choosing from what exists rather than building exactly what you want. It is the right path if a move-in-ready court is the priority and you are flexible on location and layout.
Rent
Renting is the low-commitment way to experience an indoor court — perfect for a getaway, a family trip, a group weekend, or simply to test the dream before you commit. A growing number of vacation rentals feature private indoor courts alongside lodging and lounge space. Renting is also a smart way to try surfaces, layouts, and lighting in person before you buy or build your own.
Build
Building gives you exactly the court you want — the right dimensions, ceiling height, surface, lighting, and surrounding space. It asks the most in time, budget, and planning, and it depends on having (or finding) a property that can accommodate the footprint and height. For many, it is the ultimate version of the dream, and the most personal.
How to choose
- Want to play now? Buy — if you can find the right home.
- Not ready to commit? Rent — experience it first, then decide.
- Want it exactly your way? Build — with the right land and partners.
